Haleem - Eid al- Fitr
Eid al-Fitr
Eid al-Fitr also called the Festival of sacrifice, marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Eid is a celebration
that lasts for 3 days. Hunger and thirst are supposed to make people more aware of the sufferings of the poor
and to help them appreciate what they have. On this holiday they help prepare special food like Haleem, do
communal prayers(salat), wear new clothes, give gifts, and also eat Haleem.
FOOD - Haleem
This dish is a very special food during eid. Since it represents the time when Abraham almost sacrificed his
son, Ishmael, for God. Then God proceeds to stop him from the sacrifice and asks Abraham to sacrifice a
lamb instead. This is why Haleem contains meats like lamb to show the food Abraham made for God. This
story was written in the Quran.
This dish is very special in procedure and ingredients. In brief, this dish is cinnamon chicken oatmeal. First,
you would have to boil a chicken breast with a cinnamon stick and salt. Secondly, you add the boiled chicken
and broth into the food processor. Then you add in oatmeal, cream of wheat ( American type of breakfast
porridge mix), leftover chicken mixture, cinnamon, and water. Finally, Boil the mixture in a hot pot, and you’re
finished.
